It looksย like Marvel Studios owner Disney and Sony Pictures areย going their separate ways again,ย andย that would appear to spellย the end of Tom Hollandย and Spider-Manย โs roleย in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Deadline reports.
Rumor has it that the drama is all cash related.
Highsnobiety reports that Disney wasย reportedly looking to changeย its current arrangement with Sony, seeking a 50-50 co-financing split on future Spider-Man movies rather than theย 5 percent of first-dollar gross it banks at the moment.ย Negotiations have broken down andย the split means that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will not be producing future Spidey films, despite his role in the characterโs revival from Captain America: Civil War onwards.
In an official statement, Sony said, โMuch of todayโs news aboutSpider-Manhas mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feigeโs involvement in the franchise. We are disappointed, but respect Disneyโs decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film.
โWe hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given himย โ including all their newly added Marvel propertiesย โ do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own. Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue.โ
