Monday Movers Vol. 1

posted by Blake's Takes -

Monday Movers will bring you the best new releases in the world of hip hop and R&B from the last week.  Stay up on the best content from both household names, and some you may not know.

TDE's newest member Reason already had me convinced he was next up after his video for "The Soul" last week, and with this re-release off of his 2016 project "The Free Album," he further establishes that he is the label's next star.

.

My pride in my hometown of Chicago will inevitably bleed through on my posts, but I can tell you without bias that Chicago runs hip hop right now if you are paying attention.  The slew of releases above come from artists of various styles and levels of acclaim, but they are all great in their own respects.  "Reboot" is a bouncy track featuring Save Money affiliates Chance The Rapper & Joey Purp, Lil Durk enlists Future & Valee for two new street infused hits on "Do The Most" & "Spin The Block," and Mick Jenkins & Kembe X round it out with their lyrically focused tracks "What Am I To Do?" & "Killscope."

.

I just got hip to Blood Orange, whose discography dates back to 2011, but my goodness am I glad I'm finally on board.  His newest project "Negro Swan" is incredible, and features this standout track alongside A$AP Rocky, which they performed on Jimmy Kimmel a few weeks ago.

.

Young Thug's new project "Slime Language" is a vibe. and "Tsunami" fully encompasses exactly that.

.

Dreamville's Bas just released his new album "Milky Way" to acclaim, and it's clear he thinks he made it in his video for "Tribe" featuring J. Cole.

.

Trippie Redd continues his rise as one of the most prominent artists out of Ohio in some time, and the success of his new project "LIFE'S A TRIP" further establishes his place among the young household names of today.

.

Masego has international acclaim for his pure, soul-filled music, and yet somehow he continues to fly under the radar in many circles.  Peep his smooth new effort with SiR and don't let this happen in your circle.

.

This one is a little bit of a bonus because it was technically recorded a while ago, but only recently surfaced online.  Young Thug's remix of Elton Jon's "Rocket Man" (Yes, you read that right) is as sonically pleasing as it gets, and really highlights the versatility of his voice.

Stay tuned for next week's edition of Monday Movers!
