Nelly and Ashanti are back and not just in love but IN LOVE-LOVE. The reunited power couple sat down with Angie Martinez for an exclusive interview while on tour promoting their brand-new Peacock reality series, which premieres Thursday, June 26th. All eight episodes dropped at once, and yes, it’s as real as it gets.
“It Worked”: Spinning the Block, but Make It Grown
After years apart and plenty of headlines, Nelly and Ashanti’s rekindled romance has fans cheering and now watching. Nelly admits, “It worked,” referring to their decision to give love another shot. But he’s quick to clarify: “I’m not giving out relationship advice.”
The hip-hop star reflected on what went wrong the first time around. “It wasn’t all Nelly’s fault,” he says candidly. “I wasn’t the best at communicating back then. As men, we don’t always get heard unless we’re on a thousand.” Now older and wiser, he says Ashanti is “way more considerate,” and with a laugh adds, “She just tells me what to do more I can’t eat Doritos no more.”
From "Young Girlfriend" to "Wife Vibes"
Angie asked how things have changed now that Ashanti is no longer just the girlfriend, but the soon-to-be wife. Nelly says the biggest difference is in how they move as a team. “We don’t trust easily, so when we open up, we really open up,” he explains, crediting maturity for helping them meet in the middle. “The positive outweighs the negative this time.”
As for Ashanti, she has nothing but love for her man old and new. When Angie asked her to compare boyfriend Nelly to husband Nelly, she smiled and said, “He had more energy back then,” before they both burst into laughter. But she adds, “We keep it spontaneous,” with Nelly chiming in, “The bathroom is really inspirational,” giving fans just enough to read between the lines.
On-Camera, But Off-Script
Their new Peacock show promises a peek into their real day-to-day lives touring, recording, and building a life together but don’t expect too much spice. “We had to find time for the cameras,” Ashanti admits. “We’re doing a lot.” Nelly adds, “It’s really us living our lives.” When Angie asked if we’d see their intimate moments, Ashanti laughed and said, “They didn’t cut that check.”
Music, Marriage, and Mocktails
There’s music, there’s a wedding on the way, and there's still plenty of playful chemistry. Nelly reveals Ashanti has never been drunk, which she confirms with a laugh: “I don’t drink like that.” In fact, Nelly usually ends up drinking her cocktails when they’re out.
And when Angie asked the classic game of “Who’s your celebrity crush?” the couple looked no further than each other without hesitation.
What's Next?
Alongside the show, the two are releasing new music and continuing their nationwide tour, with fans thrilled to see them glowing and growing together.
So if you’ve ever wondered what it looks like to “spin the block” and get it right, this might be the most entertaining, unfiltered version yet.
The new reality show starring Nelly and Ashanti premiered Thursday June 25, only on Peacock. All episodes drop the same day.
