Several foods sold in select states, including in Ohio, have been recalled and pulled from shelves amid an ongoing Salmonella outbreak.

The Coastal Companies has issued a voluntary recall of 17 products that contain cucumbers grown by by Bedner Growers, Inc. and distributed by Fresh Start Produce Sales, Inc. over potential contamination with Salmonella, according to a recall notice shared by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.

The recall affects products distributed by East Coast Fresh and Hearn Kirkwood and includes certain salsas and salads sold under brands East Coast Fresh, TOPS, Wellsley Farms, WEIS, AHOLD, Jack and Olive, Created Fresh, Spring and Sprout and Created Fresh. The products were distributed between May 6 and May 21, 2025, and sold in several parts of the U.S., including: Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia, Washington D.C. and West Virginia.

There have been no illnesses reported related to The Coastal Companies' products; however, the Bedner's Farm cucumber recall has been linked to at least 26 illnesses across 15 states.

According to the FDA, Salmonella can potentially cause "serious and sometimes fatal infections" in high risk groups like young children, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include fever, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain and can, in rare circumstances, lead to more "severe illnesses" like endocarditis.

Consumers who have purchased any of the affected products are urged to "destroy" them. For more information about the recall, visit fda.gov.
